Kovil Style Ven Pongal Mix
A comforting South Indian classic made with raw rice and moong dal, brought together with the familiar flavours of pepper, cumin and traditional spices. Carefully prepared as a convenient mix so you can enjoy a warm, creamy bowl of Ven Pongal with less prep — just cook, temper and serve.
Preparation
How to use
Add 1 cup of Kovil Style Ven Pongal mix to a pressure cooker with 3.5 cups of water. Cook the mix on medium flame for 2 whistles. Mash lightly to bring everything together. For the finishing touch, add 2-3 spoons of ghee. Pour over the cooked Pongal, mix well and serve hot. Our favourite: Finish with a little extra ghee and serve with coconut chutney, sambar or gothsu.

Good to know
Frequently asked questions
Is this an instant Pongal?
It is a convenient ready-to-cook mix. The ingredients are put together for you, but the Pongal is freshly cooked at home.
Do I need to add anything?
The mix is designed to make preparation simple. For the best traditional finish, we recommend adding a fresh ghee tempering before serving.
What can I serve it with?
It pairs beautifully with coconut chutney, sambar or brinjal gothsu — or simply enjoy it hot with a little extra ghee.
Is it spicy?
The flavour is intended to be warm and peppery rather than chilli-hot, making it a comforting breakfast or light meal. It's my 15 month old's favorite!
